Based in Korea, Daepyung have
been at the forefront of Stevia development. The company was
started by Mr Kyung Jae Kim in 1993 and has its major production
site in his home town of Sangju, GyeongSangBuk-Do, approximately
3 hours south of Seoul. Over the years the company has steadily
grown to gain dominant market share in various markets, particularly
in Asia.
Daepyung has
been instrumental in developing the propagation of the Stevia
rebaudiana bertoni plant species in Korea and China. Due to
the large area required to meet demand, the majority of the companies
crops are grown in China. After harvesting the crop and extracted
crude stevioside is shipped to the Sanju facility in Korea for
extraction, purification and standardization.
The processing facilities and food safety program are world class. Daepyung have
been awarded World-Class Product & Production Company for Stevia products
by the Korean Government and acquired the KOTRA Seal of Excellence, a mark of
quality, technology and trustworthiness. They are also certified to ISO9000 /
14001. The HACCP-based food
safety program covers raw material production through to final product testing,
and all goods are assessed according to current JECFA Standards (69th Report,
2008). The Daepyung productions are also Halal and Kosher certified.
The Daepyung research centre is committed to
innovation, without disrupting the balance with nature. The company
actively pursues research into the removal of impurities and highly
active ingredients while striving for mild extraction techniques
and reduced solvents.
