Titanium
Dioxide (E 171)
Titanium Dioxide is an inorganic pigment produced synthetically to obtain a very clean white shade of high opacity. It is the Anatase form that is most commonly used in the food industry but the harder Rutile form has recently also been permitted for the colouring of foodstuffs. Titanium Dioxide is totally insoluble in all generally used food products.

Titanium Dioxide is a very stable white pigment that comes as a fine particle powder that can be easily blended in dry form or dispersed into a variety of aqueous or oil mediums. They have major applications in oil free salad dressings, confectionery and in combination with other food colours to give greater opacity to coatings.
